I’m not the first one to do it nor am I amongst the top 100 to do it.
Back in October of 2008 I bought a PSP Madden edition. It was about $20 cheaper than Wal-Mart, NewEgg, and TigerDirect (big surprise). Big mistake, as this is one of the few PSPs that you can actually hack.
Why? Well that’s because the PSP Madden edition has a Ta-088v3 motherboard which made it impossible to hack.
Well a few months ago new “software” came out which allowed a user to hack a PSP without the use of a Pandora battery through CFW (Custom Firmware) known as ChickHEN.
Before I tried ChickHEN on the PSP Madden edition (which is a PSP-2000/PSP-2001 aka PSP Slim) I bought me a PSP-1000/PSP-1001 aka PSP Phat off of eBay for $75 (good price if you ask me). Having my own Pandora battery (bought it some site… forgot sorry). I set off to make my own hacked PSP.
Following the easy to read instructions at Atma Xplorer on how to use a Pandora battery with a MMS (Magic Memory Stick) to install CFW 5.00 M33-4 (if I’m not mistaken) onto my PSP Phat. Worked like a charm! So easy. From there I updated. From there I went: 5.00 M33-4 >> 5.00 M33-6 >> 5.50GEN-A . And that’s where I’m at now. Thanks to a custom theme I also have it looking like it’s an XBOX 360 which makes me laugh everytime I start it up.
Having done that to my PSP Phat I thought I could do something similar on my PSP Slim. Seeing as the chart on the site said it could be partially hacked I gave it my best shot. With ChickHEN installed I followed yet another guide on Atma Xplorer. Success I could run apps and stuff on my Slim. But it wasn’t enough. I went into my PSP’s flash0 to make it look like an XBOX 360… bad mistake. BRICKED! If you don’t know what bricked means… well then you’re new to this whole concept. I can’t even turn on my PSP Slim anymore! What’s the fix? Get a MMS and Pandora battery. But wait… PSP Ta-088v3s are Pandora proof, meaning that if you try to insert a Pandora battery in it nothing will happen.
So yep… now I have a great PSP laying around and a useless one. Yaay me! Any questions feel free to post or Google. I know a lot about the topics I talk about.
Here’s some screen captures of my modded PSP.

Background is of Saber from Fate Stay Night. I have a 8GB memory stick in it. Currently looking to make that 32GB by Christmas but I don’t know just due to money issues at the moment. Plus I have no idea what I will fill that space with. Music? Meh.
Also as far as homebrew apps go!

Get an emulator! If you have a modded PSP Slim go ahead and grab a N64 emulator and also head over to AcidMods.com to see about getting your PSP two thumbsticks. While you’re at it download Xplora (I think the newest version is 1.8), it can help you copy games to your memory stick from your UMD drive, that way you’re not always carrying around your favorite games with you. There’s some more useful ones. If you can think/find any please feel free to email me at webmaster[at]maplestorm[dot]com.
